Application of Energy Storage System in Wind Power Grid Connection

Time:2023-11-10 Views:

1. Utilizing Energy Storage Systems to Enhance Wind Power Stability

Energy storage systems have the characteristic of quickly absorbing or releasing active and reactive power, which greatly helps to improve the power balance of the system and improve the operational stability of the power system. According to current research and simulation results, superconducting energy storage and supercapacitor energy storage systems have good effects on reducing voltage fluctuations of wind power at grid connection and suppressing fluctuations in wind farm output. At the same time, they can also enhance the stability of system operation.

In addition, the stability of wind power is also reflected in the stability of wind farm output power and frequency stability. Currently, research on this issue is mainly focused on using energy storage systems to suppress frequency fluctuations in wind power output power. According to many theoretical and experimental research results by current scholars, energy storage systems can indeed effectively improve the frequency stability of wind power systems, and the larger the capacity of the energy storage system, the faster the response speed, and the better the effect.

Therefore, to enhance the stability of wind power grid connected systems, energy storage systems need to have the ability to respond quickly, such as SMES, flywheel energy storage, supercapacitor energy storage, and other energy storage methods. Due to the rapid changes in various parameters of the system during transient processes, energy storage devices need to be able to quickly compensate for power imbalance and enhance system stability. The response speed of the above-mentioned energy storage methods can reach 1-20ms, The requirements for the capacity of energy storage systems in applications that improve stability are not high.

2. Enhance the LVRT function of wind turbines

When the proportion of wind capacitance in the power system is high, the ability of wind turbines to withstand low voltage is a crucial factor affecting system stability. When wind turbines with low voltage ride through function are connected to the grid, such as when a short circuit fault occurs in the external power grid, they can effectively solve the problem of severe voltage drop caused by the fault, and play a role in enhancing the operational stability of the system. The low voltage ride through function of the unit can be achieved by connecting the DC part of the converter to the power supply system. This method not only fundamentally solves the problem of the wind turbine unit burning the rotor or converter due to overcurrent during the fault period, but also greatly enhances the function of the wind turbine unit's low voltage causing the unit to operate offline.
